Super hero outfits were a challenge for us. Most of the costume designs emphasis the male or female body, in other words, tight-tight-tight. Our dolls have oversized heads and that makes them look easily better in puffy dresses or voluminous outfits to balance the figure. So when we first started the collaboration making them tight and still stylish was difficult.
In the beginning, we had two versions of a doll type. Per example we had two different makeup & hair Batgirl and Cat-woman. It started with Cat-woman since in the office there were two strong opinions on which version we should do. Originally many would go with the bond version since that was the style that Michelle Pfeiffer did in the Movie ‘Batman returns (1992)’. Then there was the ‘Catwoman (2004)’ film that Halle Berry stared in. We did a mockup of both versions and decided to go with both as different regional versions. For Catwoman, I personally think the makeup was gorgeously done, especially the one in dark skin. Pullip doesn’t come in a dark caramel tone that often.
Batgirl was done around the same time as Catwoman, also in two versions. Just like the Taeyang Batman we did later, the mask really didn’t go well with the whole look. I prefer taking the mask off. The black-blue colored hair gave a darker look but a lot of our fans think the strong red went well with the yellow and black outfit.
Batman Taeyang came along with Wonder woman Pullip. We wanted to do a male character and Taeyang had many other options like Superman, Spiderman etc. But ‘Dark knight’ was a sensation and ‘Dark knight rises’ was coming so… we went with Batman. I personally think Taeyang Batman wasn’t a perfect match. To pull the look off, we needed to suit him up head to toe. The suit had great detail but the mask on look didn’t compliment Taeyang and vice versa. On the other hand, Wonder woman had a big cape with very little to wear underneath but still looked great.

It would have been fun to do Taeyang or Isul as ‘Joker’ We do see some photos of custom Jokers online and also great ones like the types that Kenji did. But those details and faceups would be difficult for mass production and the price would go straight up.
Harlequin Pullip was chosen over Poison Ivy. We did a mockup of Poison Ivy as well but a Green Pullip didn’t seem that great. Actually I wanted to post photos of Poison Ivy’s faceup but I’m having trouble finding the original sample. I remember the faceup to be gorgeous but the outfit and full green body to be tricky. And finally our most recent Super hero was Super girl, just like Wonder woman, great in her red white and blue.
Mostly when we take promotional photos of Pullips, we pose them a bit bashful. But with these super heros, any pose comes out to be powerful and energetic. I think that kind of energy is why the world in so into super heros these days. So… what kind of super heros should we do next?
